Laser Hair removal

Laser hair removal

The diode applicator for Laser hair removal is considered the “gold standard” in the aesthetic industry. It is also considered to be one of the most comfortable procedures with no cooling or topical anesthetics required.

Laser works by emitting near-infrared laser light that is attracted to and absorbed by the pigment with a hair. This then causes a thermal reaction which kills off the blood supply to the hair follicle which then stops the hair growth. An effective form of hair removal without any damage caused by the skin.

A full consultation and patch test will be carried out prior to any full treatment being performed.

Our method of Laser can treat all skin types and anyone above the age of 18.

Can all hairs be treated?

Because the treatment relies on absorption of light by pigment within the hair, there needs to be colour in the hair. This means that light blonde, red, grey or white hairs do not respond, and the most efficient treatment is seen with dark hair. We can also treat hair on all areas of the body including the face.

How many treatments will I need and is it permanent?

We have 3 different stages of hair growth and our hairs are all at different stages at one time. We can only get a successful and effective treatment when the hair is in the growing stage and the blood supply is active to the hair follicle and only about 30% of the hairs will be in this stage. This is why you should expect about a 30% reduction per session and is also why you need to have more than one treatment.

On average most people have 6-8 sessions to get their desired result. Sometimes this can be more and sometimes this can be less depending on area, hair, skin type, age and hormone levels.

The diode laser is proven to work on hair removal and permanent hair reduction on all skin types and tanned skin. To achieve a satisfactory level of clearance, 3-5 treatments are typically required.

Why do I need repeat treatments?

Hair growth occurs in 4 stages: Early Anagen (early hair growth), Anagen (active hair growth) Catagen (regression) Telogen (resting, not growing). Laser treatment only affects hair follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of treatment; At any one moment 20% of hairs are resting or dormant. For this reason the treatment must be repeated until all the hair follicles have passed through the growth phase.

Will my hair ever grow back?

Actively growing hairs that are treated cannot grow back. However, hair follicles that did not enter the active growth phase at the time of your treatment will still need to be treated. Maintenance treatment is therefore recommended if any new hairs appear. Patients experiencing hormonal changes may also require touch up treatments from time to time.

What do I need to do before and after my laser session?

Prior to a full laser session it is important not to do any other hair removal other than shaving the area. This makes sure that as many hairs are in the follicle prior to treatment. If there is no hair in the follicle because it has been plucked out the laser cannot treat it and this will continue to grow back.

It is also important to avoid tanning the treated area before and after the laser as we dont want the tanned skin to absorb the laser energy and not the hair follicle.

Please let us know about any medication you take and/or may start taking prior to any laser session, this is because some medications are photosentive and we need to take the appropriate precautions to cater to this.

We also recommend you use sunscreen on any exposed areas for 30 days post laser treatment.

Why Should I use Diode Laser System rather than other methods?

Diode Laser Hair Removal provides enhanced comfort during treatment, minimal risk of infection, speed and accuracy and also minimizes skin irritation that other methods may create. Diode Laser is a precise instrument, the light parameters that can be adjusted to damage only the hair follicle while minimally affecting the surrounding skin.

How does Diode Hair removal compare with other hair removal methods?

Shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams are all temporary methods that must be repeated on a frequent basis and none of those methods can successfully reduce ingrown. Diode Laser Hair Removal offers permanent hair reduction and treatment of ingrown hairs.
